    License Types Explained

    Most trades follow a progression from apprentice to master, with each level requiring additional experience and testing.

    Apprentice License

    Entry-level license for those just starting their trade education and training.

    Requirements: Enrollment in approved training program, background check, application fee
    Renewal: 1-2 years

    Journeyman License

    Mid-level license for those who have completed training and accumulated work experience.

    Requirements: Completed apprenticeship (typically 4 years or 8,000 hours), passed journeyman exam, work hours documented

    Master License

    Advanced license for experienced professionals who can supervise others and pull permits.

    Requirements: Journeyman experience (typically 1-2 additional years), passed master exam, continuing education
